Energy efficiency is a key requirement when working in new and existing dwellings. The Part L (Energy Efficiency) qualification is designed for plumbers, heating installers and gas engineers who need to understand and apply the requirements of Approved Document L1. It supports those carrying out domestic heating work and those needing to self-certify under a Competent Person Scheme (CPS).

This qualification is aimed at plumbers, heating installers and gas engineers who need to demonstrate compliance with Approved Document L1, particularly those working under a Competent Person Scheme or involved in domestic heating system installation.
What you’ll learn
On completion, you will be able to:
Understand the requirements of Approved Document L, Volume 1.
Apply energy efficiency requirements to domestic heating systems.
Carry out heat loss calculations.
Complete radiator sizing exercises.
Assessment
The qualification is assessed by:
A paper-based theory examination (no practical element).
Duration
The programme is delivered over 1 day.
