About us
Stronger With Knowledge.
ProTech Education and Assessment is a South Yorkshire-based training and consultancy business, built around one idea: the people already working in plumbing, heating and fire, emergency & security systems (FESS) deserve practical, credible upskilling that fits around their working lives.
We work with engineers, employers, assessors and trainers across the trades — and with awarding organisations and approved centres who need expert support behind the scenes.
Who we help
The workforce is already there. The challenge is making sure those engineers are up to standard, able to progress, and ready for what comes next — whether that's heat pumps, low-temperature heating, water regulations or fire and security compliance.
ProTech is built for:
- Experienced engineers without full qualifications
- Tradespeople moving into assessing and teaching
- Engineers adapting to low-carbon and emerging systems
- SME employers upskilling their staff
- Approved centres and awarding organisations needing consultancy
What we deliver
A growing portfolio of qualifications, end-point assessments, short CPD courses and consultancy services, organised around the work that actually needs doing on site.
Plumbing & heating — Water Regulations, Low-Temperature Heating, Heat Pumps, Unvented Hot Water (G3).
Fire, Emergency & Security Systems — Experienced worker assessment, compliance-focused upskilling, manufacturer-led system training.
Cross-sector — Assessing and teaching qualifications, management qualifications (black-card approved), short compliance and CPD courses.
Consultancy — Regulatory approval and compliance, qualification and EPA development, approved centre support, quality assurance, strategic growth.
How we work
Industry-led, not corporate. Practical, not theory-heavy. Flexible, not rigid. Focused on competence, not just certificates. That model is built for SMEs, working engineers, and people moving across trades — plumbers stepping into renewables, engineers stepping into teaching, employers needing their team brought up to spec.
Why it matters
Plumbing, heating and fire/security systems are all critical to building safety and performance. When competence drops, systems fail, standards slip, and safety is compromised. Our job isn't to start over — it's to build on what's already there, and do it properly.
The founder
Matt Skelding is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and a recognised leader in technical education, training and assessment, with more than twenty years of hands-on and strategic experience across the sector.
Matt qualified as a time-served plumber before moving into education, where he earned a Grade 1 Ofsted rating as a vocational teacher and went on to mentor teaching staff as a Subject Learning Coach across a major FE college. As Director of Learning at Full Circle Learning, he led delivery centres in Rotherham and Leeds with apprenticeship achievement rates consistently in the 80–85% range, and implemented ISO 9001 standards across the organisation.
In 2015 he joined BPEC and over ten years led its transformation into a commercially aware operation, building its End-Point Assessment Organisation from the ground up and driving full regulatory compliance with Ofqual, QiW, UKAS and IGEM.
As Managing Director of ProTech Education and Assessment, Matt brings regulatory rigour, commercial awareness, and a deep understanding of what makes vocational learning meaningful, measurable and effective.
