HPA - Heat Pump Association

HPA UK is the UK's leading industry body for heat pumps, representing the entire supply chain. It was formed from a merger of the Heat Pump Association, the Ground Source Heat Pump Association and the Heat Pump Federation, bringing all three under one roof to give the sector a single, unified voice.

What HPA UK does

HPA UK champions heat pump adoption in the UK, develops industry technical standards, supports policy through government engagement, and brings members together through working groups, forums and events. It is not a consumer advice body — it does not endorse individual installers or handle homeowner enquiries.

Who joins HPA UK

  • Heat pump and component manufacturers
  • Distributors, wholesalers and energy suppliers
  • Installation companies and contractors
  • Training providers and certification bodies
  • Consultants, researchers, universities and students
  • Social housing providers and developers

Can installers join?

Yes. HPA UK has an Installer Member tier specifically for heat pump installation businesses, which is free for MCS-certified installers. It gives access to the HPA UK Installer Forum, the installer WhatsApp group, regular updates and the option to stand for the Installer Representative role.

Training and standards

HPA UK's Residential Training Working Group brings together training providers and installers to monitor installation standards and shape workforce development. Member training providers deliver the courses used across the sector, complementing MCS certification and BPEC heat pump qualifications.

ProTech's perspective

The heat pump industry is growing rapidly and HPA UK sits at the centre of how it's organised. Our BPEC heat pump course aligns with the wider qualifications pathway recognised by the sector. If you're considering moving into heat pump installation, understanding where HPA UK, MCS, and BPEC fit together is the first step.
