SSAIB - Security Systems and Alarm Inspection Board

The Security Systems and Alarm Inspection Board (SSAIB) is a UKAS-accredited certification body for the security and fire detection industries. SSAIB-registered firms are independently audited against recognised British, European and international standards.

What SSAIB does

SSAIB certifies companies (rather than individuals) against published standards across the security and fire industries. Certification involves an initial audit, ongoing surveillance visits, and a re-audit every three years.

Certification scope

  • Intruder alarms (BS 8243, EN 50131)
  • CCTV and remote monitoring
  • Access control systems
  • Fire detection & alarm systems (BS 5839)
  • Emergency lighting
  • Manned security — guarding, mobile patrol, key holding

Who needs it

Insurers, police forces and large clients often require SSAIB (or NSI) certification before they'll accept an installation. For most B2B and police-response security work, an SSAIB certificate is effectively a market entry requirement.

ProTech's perspective

For trade businesses moving into security or fire detection, SSAIB is the recognised mark of quality and the gateway to insurer-approved and police-monitored work. We can help you understand the qualification routes that lead into SSAIB-certified business operations.
