About this course

Groundwork, Service Pipe and Meter Housing Installation

The Groundwork, Service Pipe and Meter Housing Installation programme gives installers the skills and knowledge to install meter and supply pipes in accordance with the Water Fittings Regulations. The course is approved for use in training by Water Regs UK on behalf of the water undertakers participating in the Water Industry Approved Plumbers Scheme (WIAPS).

Who it’s for

This qualification is aimed primarily at persons wishing to become Approved Contractors for the WIAPS Groundworker Sector. It is also relevant to designers and site managers who are involved in ensuring that pitfalls are avoided before, during and after the water connection is made.

What you’ll learn

The course comprises two distinct modules:

  • Meter installation
  • Installation of supply pipes (groundwork)

On completion, you will be able to understand and apply the requirements of the Water Fittings Regulations as they relate to the installation of meters, meter housings and supply pipes.

Assessment

There are no practical elements – all training is theoretical. Assessment is by:

  • A 40-question theory examination covering the main programme.
  • A separate 10-question paper for the Meter Housing Installation section.

Both assessments are delivered and marked at the training centre.

Duration

The programme is delivered over 1 day in centre, supported by pre-study.
