The Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB) has announced that it has become the first accredited monitoring body approved by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) under Article 41 of UK GDPR.
The accreditation marks a significant development for the fire and security sector, strengthening the industry’s focus on compliance, governance and data protection as connected technologies continue to evolve across security and life safety systems.
SSAIB stated that the approval allows the organisation to operate an approved monitoring scheme against its UK GDPR Code of Conduct, helping organisations demonstrate accountability and compliance within an increasingly regulated environment.
The announcement reflects the growing importance of data management across the fire and security sector, particularly as modern systems continue to integrate remote access, cloud connectivity, CCTV monitoring and smart technologies.
For installers and businesses operating within the sector, developments such as this continue to highlight the increasing importance of both technical competence and regulatory awareness.
The fire and security industry continues to evolve rapidly, with expectations around cybersecurity, data handling and system integration becoming more prominent alongside traditional installation and maintenance skills.
