Future Homes Standard Set to Transform New Build Heating Across the UK

Heat pump installations across the UK continue to increase as demand for low-carbon heating grows and government support schemes expand.

Recent updates to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) include additional funding for homes currently heated by oil and LPG systems, with grants for eligible off-grid properties increasing from £7,500 to £9,000 from July 2026.

The increase is aimed primarily at rural and off-gas-grid properties, where households are often more exposed to volatile fuel prices and higher heating costs.

Alongside the additional funding, the Government has also confirmed wider updates to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, including longer-term funding commitments and changes designed to make the scheme more accessible for homeowners and installers.

Industry bodies and energy organisations continue to report growing interest in renewable heating technologies, with heat pumps increasingly seen as a major area of future growth for the plumbing and heating sector.

For installers, the continued expansion of government support and low-carbon policies is expected to further increase demand for practical training, system design knowledge and renewable heating competence over the coming years.

The transition towards low temperature heating systems, improved energy efficiency and electrification continues to reshape the industry, creating both opportunities and challenges for businesses across the sector.
