March – Building Momentum

Continued progress at the ProTech training centre workshop in Rotherham

March has been a bit of a mixed bag, but overall it feels like things are starting to move in the right direction again.

Early in the month, I had a setback I didn't see coming — the unit was broken into and several of my hand tools were stolen. After everything it's taken to get the centre to this point, that one stung. There's no getting away from that. But like a lot of things on this journey, it comes back to how you respond. The tools can be replaced, the damage sorted, and the work continues.

On a much more positive note, I had a visit from BPEC to begin the approval process for the centre. It's early days, but it's a really important step forward and something I've been working towards for a long time. I'll keep things brief for now — watch this space.

I also had a really positive meeting with Roy Fugler, discussing the potential for him to deliver programmes at ProTech. It's always encouraging to speak with people who share the same mindset around quality and standards, and I'm genuinely looking forward to collaborating in the near future.

Another highlight this month has been support from Orisec, who have provided some sample security products for training purposes. It's worth recognising that they're a British company backing upskilling in the sector — not just to get their products in front of installers, but because they care about raising standards in the industry. That kind of support makes a difference.

Away from the centre, Julie and I took a couple of days out on Thursday and Good Friday and headed to Leeds to see Richard Ashcroft live. An excellent gig and a well-earned break. Of course, it came at a cost — Saturday and Easter Monday

were spent back at the unit, putting together a small office and meeting room.

It's a fair reflection of where things are at right now. Take a step back when you can, then get straight back to it.

The centre is starting to take shape in a way that feels more permanent. There's still plenty to do, but the pieces are coming together — and more importantly, the right conversations are happening. Momentum is building.
