Trade to Trainer Programme

We know what it’s like — you’ve grafted for years, built up real trade know-how, and now you’re thinking: could I pass that on to others? That’s exactly what the Trade to Trainer Programme is about. It’s built for tradespeople, by tradespeople. No academic waffle, just practical steps to help you take what you already know and turn it into solid teaching skills.

What you’ll learn

Over the programme we’ll cover:

  • What it really means to be a trainer or teacher.

  • How to run a safe, supportive, and respectful learning environment.

  • Ways to plan lessons that actually work for different learners.

  • Simple techniques to keep a group engaged (even after a long day on site).

  • How assessment fits in — and how to make it fair.

You’ll also get a chance to try it out in micro-teaching sessions. Don’t panic — these are short, informal sessions where you deliver a bit of training to the group and get feedback. Everyone’s in the same boat, and it’s a supportive atmosphere.

What you’ll walk away with

At the end you’ll have a recognised Level 3 qualification in teaching — the standard first step into training. It can open doors to teaching in colleges, private training centres, or in-house roles where you train apprentices or staff. From there, you can carry on up the ladder with Level 4 and Level 5 qualifications if you want.

How it runs

  • Two evenings a week — no need to give up your day job.

  • Around 50–60 hours of taught sessions spread over the course, plus a bit of self-study.
